Artist Submission Terms

These additional terms will govern artwork submitted to Apelles Editions once submissions are enabled.

Effective September 11, 2026 · Early-access version

1. Current status

Artwork upload, printing, auctions, fulfillment, and artist payouts are not currently operational. These terms describe the intended baseline for future submissions and do not obligate Apelles Editions to accept, display, print, auction, sell, or promote any work. Additional challenge-specific or production agreements may apply before those features launch.

2. Ownership

You retain ownership of your artwork. Except for the limited license below, these terms do not transfer your copyright to Apelles Editions.

3. Your promises

You represent that you are at least 18, created the submitted work or control all rights needed to submit and license it, and obtained any necessary permissions for people, trademarks, third-party materials, collaborators, and source assets depicted or incorporated in it. Your submission must not infringe copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, contract, or other rights; be unlawful or deceptive; contain malware; or violate published content and challenge rules. You must accurately disclose collaborators and the role of generative-AI tools if requested.

4. Display license

By submitting artwork, you grant Apelles Editions a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, resize, crop only as reasonably needed for previews, publicly display, and promote the submission and your artist profile in connection with the service, its challenges, results, archives, and related editorial and social promotion. This license permits technical service providers to perform those functions on our behalf. It does not authorize merchandise, physical printing for sale, or transfer of ownership.

5. Printing and auction require another agreement

Selection for a medal or other recognition does not by itself authorize commercial printing or guarantee an auction. Before producing, offering, or selling a physical print, we will need a separate written agreement covering the approved file, proofing and alterations, signature and delivery obligations, edition size, one-of-one status, auction rules, revenue share, expenses, taxes, refunds, fulfillment, intellectual- property license, and cancellation rights.

6. Challenges, voting, and recognition

Challenge timing, eligibility, voting, medals, Laurel and Muse recognition, display placement, and any auction opportunity are subject to the applicable challenge rules and technical verification. We may reject or disqualify entries, invalidate manipulated votes, correct mistakes, or cancel a challenge when reasonably necessary. Results do not guarantee audience size, sales, income, or future opportunities.

7. Removal and license duration

You may request removal by emailing ivanmarkchang@gmail.com. We will stop new promotional uses within a reasonable period, but may retain secure backups, legal records, and historical challenge results, and cannot recall materials already lawfully distributed. Licenses needed for an agreed physical edition will be governed by the separate production agreement.

8. Complaints and responsibility

We may remove or restrict material in response to a rights complaint. You remain responsible for your submission and, to the extent permitted by law, for third-party claims arising from your breach of these terms. Copyright complaints may be sent to ivanmarkchang@gmail.com. The general Terms of Use, including disclaimers and liability limits, also apply.
